• Tulsa March Mania •
What began as a dream four years ago, has become one of the major paint horse shows in the
country today. However, Tulsa March Mania is more than a horse show. It is a place where friends
from all over the United States and Canada get together to have fun. After spending the day
competing for top prizes, these friends find the evening as a time to catch up and discuss the day
s events.
After enduring 20 hour days and a nightmarish schedule in 2004, Tulsa March Mania added
another day, changed the schedule, and saw a much improved atmosphere in 2005. With their total
entries up 14% over 2004, this was a testimonial to the commitment people have for this special
horse show.
The 2005 Tulsa March Mania featured a couple of special guests. JR Reichert and Terri Schroeder
came to Tulsa to draw the names for the judges call list for the $110,000 Equine Chronicle Color
Classic which is held during the Reichert Celebration at the National Equestrian Center in Lake St.
Louis, Missouri on August 15-20, 2005. Every slot owner was present anxiously awaiting the
drawing of the names. The judges call list can be viewed on the Reichert Celebration web site.
The Tulsa March Mania featured NSBA dual-approved added money classes and the winners of
these classes profited handsomely. In addition to large purses, the NSBA trophies were a big hit
with everyone with one exhibitor remarking that she really didnt care about the money, she just
wanted the trophy.
One of the most popular after-show events brought everyone out to see the Youth Stick Horse
Race. There are races for those 9 & Under and 10 to 18. Morgan Sturgeon, the winner of the 9 &
Under race took home a Razor scooter for her efforts. Michaela Brinkley, the 10 to 18 division
champion stick horse rider, was awarded an electric scooter.
There was also an exhibitors party held at the Rockin Bar S Saloon and it was fantastic. The
music and food were incredible. Our thanks to The Skeeter Baker Band for the entertainment and
Dr. David McCain for the outstanding culinary treats.
Any successful show is the direct result of the effort put in by those both in front of and behind the
scenes. We must take a moment to thank Tom and Shelly Sturgeon, Jackie Mead, Karen and Ken
Kennedy, Misty Martin and the rest of the GCPHC for making this such a success. Finally, we have
to thank the judges, ring stewards, paddock managers, exhibitors, vendors and sponsors for their
contributions. The Tulsa March Mania has bigger things in store for 2006, just wait and see.
